What's up, everyone! First week in the new area and it's been a little of an adjustment. I'm now back in the city in an area that's smaller and a lot more chaotic. It's actually pretty cool how the area is set up. The chapel is three stories and is in the middle of the neighborhood, so everyone has either already been to church or knows exactly where it's at.
This week was full of trying to get to know the members and people. Me and my comp showed up together and so the start is always a little more difficult since neither knows the area or people. My comp is Elder Draper who is in the final transfer of his mission. He is an absolute work horse and so we've been going 1000 miles an hour this week. It's been a little hard because everyone that lives close to the church has basically already met and been taught by the missionaries, so it's been a little slow getting things going.
This week we had the baptism of Robson who was taught by the missionaries before we showed up, but he was beyond prepared and excited. The members came together and welcomed him with open arms, and it was cool to be a part of.
As a missionary you have the opportunity to meet and come across so many people that have come from so many different backgrounds. A lot of the time you see someone at an all-time low and all you want for them is to find a way out and to realize that it's possible. As a missionary that's what we teach, but the hardest part is when they don't want it. It's tough to try and understand because from the outside you know, but they don't ever let themselves believe or change. I think it's so easy to have a closed off perspective and to get caught up in the moment. When we see the big picture, we are able to realize that time keeps moving. When Jesus Christ and his gospel is the center point of our lives, he is able to help us have this perspective and to always remember that he knows exactly what we are going through and how to help. The hardest part oftentimes is to be willing to make small sacrifices and strive to receive blessings. When we step out of our comfort zone and stop thinking our way is always best, we are able to grow and grow closer to our Savior.
I'm forever grateful for the experiences I'm having out here and the opportunity to testify of Jesus Christ!
Have the best week ever!
Also, crazy to think that on the 11th I turn 20.
Love, Elder Copeland
