What's up, everyone! Kind of a tough week and a step back in the work, but it happens. Most of the people we are teaching took a step back which is sad to see knowing it's their choice at the end of the day. We had sort of a stop in the momentum this week and it's always hard to get it back going again. We're hoping to get back at it and keep things rolling.
This week I got to do a division in the area my dad started his mission (Cachoeira do Sul). It was cool to go see more of where my dad was 25 years ago. It's a cool experience to be able to help younger missionaries with the same things I went through when I arrived. As Zone leader, we do a lot more work out of our own area and are involved with every duo of missionários. It's pushing me and making me better.
Other than going through some struggles in the area, I did have one of the cooler experiences in my mission. This week we went to visit the family my dad had baptized.
He told me the entire story from his point of view and it's cool to see how it all worked out. It truly was inspired by God and after hearing both sides of the story, it's clear it was meant to be.
The family showed me a letter and photos that my dad had sent them a few years after being home.
It's so crazy to think that I was holding the exact letter he sent to people that lived on the other side of the world while being in their house. It still is so surreal and amazing to be out here.
The letter talks about my older sister when she was a newborn and my dad looking for a job in Texas where I was shortly born after. Seeing something like this just goes to show that missionary work can change lives and leave a generational impact. The sacrifices that we make are so worth it knowing it's playing a part in the Lord's work.
Something I was thinking a lot about this week is how easy it is to get caught up trying to be someone we're not. My comp out here is an amazing teacher and has a lot more time in the mission and often I find myself trying to be someone I'm not. The experiences I've had have shaped my testimony and the things I know to be true are what can help the people. A lot has to do with trusting the Lord and knowing that he has a plan for us in all the chaos. He will put us in situations to grow and it's important we are constantly looking to make those everyday sacrifices to leave our comfort zone to a place of growth because that is when we change for the better. It's all a process and I'm loving the grind of it.
I hope everyone has the best week back home!
Elder Copeland
