This week was a huge step in the right direction and full of little miracles. Me and Cloward helped our Sister missionaries with a baptism, and we also finished the week with the baptism of our good friend, Bruno!
Ever since we first met Bruno, he has impressed me and Cloward. We have been in contact with him for a while now, and he has been a stud through the whole process. He is 16 years old and realized he wanted more in his life. He has been completely willing and open to change through his conversion and been an example to many. He's the only person in his family that really has a religious background and despite that, was willing to walk by faith and be baptized. The entire ward was a huge support and made him feel at home. We had a huge turnout of people to welcome him into the ward, and we couldn't be more happy!
This week we came across a few people that you just know we were supposed to find. It's kind of hard to explain but it's not a coincidence when things like this happen. One guy's name is Robert, and he is amazing. He explained a lot about his rough past and after talking to him, he was just beaming with light. He told us that finding the missionaries is one of the best things to happen in his life and couldn't be happier in the changes he is making. He has a strong desire, and we are very excited to continue working with him.
Me and Cloward are now down to two more weeks together. With transfers coming up soon, we are starting to realize how fast time has gone. We've become like brothers and having this opportunity to be in Brazil serving with a guy like him has been awesome.
Each part of your mission teaches you something new and I think as of late, I've learned a lot about willingness. At the end of the day, what you are willing to do determines a lot on what you will get in return. Being a missionary is a daily grind but if you are willing to forget about your needs and focus on how you can help people improve their lives and how you can grow as a person, you will see your efforts pay off. It's the same with everything else. It isn't hard to take the easy way out. If you search for an excuse or a way to give up, you will always find it. Growth and improvement come from a willingness to sacrifice and trust the process. I've seen that not only in multiple people this week but also myself. When we trust the Lord and are willing to follow his example, we are blessed in more ways than we can see.
Cloward and I this week learned a valuable lesson on electricity and the importance of not touching two live wires together. We live with an older lady that we call Granny. Cloward accidentally pulled the socket out of the wall exposing two wires. We didn't want to alarm Granny so we decided it would be smart to try and fix an electricity problem in the house by ourselves. Problem is, we didn't turn off the electricity before doing so. Before we knew it, our faces were inches away as we tried to connect the two wires back together and then it happened. A mini explosion that had us both thinking we lost our eyesight. Worst part is that we had to go talk to Granny that lives in front and tell her we lost power. However, she already knew because she was at the door breaking a mean sweat and so we quickly realized we were not the only ones that lost power. All is well in the end and the power has been restored.
Thank you all for the support back home!
Elder Copeland!
